Hey, y’all. Thanks for stopping by. It’s time for the weekly roundup of the true crime I watched last week with a short recap and a quick score and review. Let’s get into it. What did the Killer Queen watch last week?

Murder and Justice: The Case of Martha Moxley
- Release year: 2019
- Streaming service: Oxygen
Synopsis
Hosted by former federal prosecutor and on-air legal analyst Laura Coates, the series re-explores the infamous murder of Martha Moxley by taking a 360-degree look at the case’s original evidence, testing new theories that examine potentially overlooked clues with help from some of the world’s preeminent crime experts. Through new and exclusive interviews with those connected to the case, including former LAPD Homicide Detective Mark Fuhrman, trial defense attorney Mickey Sherman and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., as well as conversations with Martha’s loved ones, Coates revisits the investigation and its aftermath in an attempt to understand the question that remains: Why has justice been so elusive for the Moxley family for so many years?
Oxygen
This is a cheesy documentary through and through. The show runners take a new look at the case of fifteen-year-old Martha Moxley who was found beaten to death in her front yard on October 31, 1975. The host Laura Coates performs new experiments, interviews witnesses, and talks to experts.

2/10
Leading up to Halloween, I started researching murder cases that were related to Halloween. I ultimately covered the case of Karl Jackson, but during that initial research, I found the Martha Moxley case. I had heard of the case through the podcast True Crime Obsessed who covered this documentary (sidenote: please listen to TCO if you haven’t. It’s my favorite true crime podcast). So I found it and started watching.
I hated it. I didn’t even finish all of the episodes. It’s just so cheesy and dramatic and I didn’t learn anything new. It just felt like spinning wheels for however many hours long it was.
Also Mark Fuhrman is in this and he sucks. He wrote a book about the case, but he’s also known for being a cop involved in the trial of OJ Simpson. He openly said some racist stuff and he’s the worst.
The Vow Episode 2 “Rapport”
- Release year: 2022
- Streaming service: HBO Max
Synopsis
Nancy recalls her first interactions with Keith and the subsequent founding of NXIVM. Mark Vicente takes the witness stand.
HBO
We finally get that interview with Nancy that was teased in the first episode. Basically, Nancy explains how she met Keith and the birth of NVXIM. All I heard was apologies and excuses for Keith. Oh, and Mark Vicente is in this. That man has a talent for making everything about him.

5/10
God, I hate Nancy Salzman. The nonsense she spouts in this is exhausting. Am I supposed to feel bad that she has to wear an ankle monitor and lost that fancy house in Clifton Park? I don’t feel bad. Whether Nancy started as a victim of Keith or not doesn’t excuse her continued support of him after she knew who he really was.
And can we talk about that life-sized statue in her living room? The stuff of nightmares.
Captive Audience: A Real American Horror Story
Release year: 2022
Streaming service: Hulu
Synopsis
In 1972, seven-year-old Steven vanishes from Merced, CA. When he heroically returns 7 years later, the media can’t get enough of the story. But this isn’t the Hollywood ending it appears to be.
Hulu
Steven Stayner was abducted in 1972 when he was seven years old. His abductor was sex offender Kenneth Parnell. Steven is basically gaslit into accepting Parnell as his father. Steven only made his escape 7 years later when Parnell kidnapped another boy who was only five years old.
You think that’s bad enough? Episode 3 really turns you on your head. Just watch it to find out.

9/10
The best thing I watched last week by a mile. The use of the tv film about the case is genius and I was so sad when it was over. And the audio interviews with the family are captivating. Go watch it right now. I mean it.
Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3
Synopsis
I can’t find a official Netflix blurb for Volume 3. So here’s my summary. Unsolved Mysteries is back with new episodes about mysterious deaths, unexplainable paranormal phenomena, and all the other things Unsolved Mysteries loves.
Review
6/10
Unpopular opinion maybe, but I haven’t really liked Volumes 2 and 3 of this reboot. I find myself getting bored every episode. Like I can only watch two episodes max before I’m nodding off.
Some of my dislike is probably because I’m not a believer in the paranormal. So the discussion of coins appearing out of thin air doesn’t do much for me.
Did you watch any of these? Let me know what you think and what you have recently watched in the comments!
